COMD 485

Calligraphy offers a rich visible language that is both handmade and alphabetic. This is the first semester of using the broad-edge pen. Students will explore writing that is legible yet flexible enough for contemporary design, has strong links to typography, and is based on the styles used in manuscripts. Students will learn either humanist roman/foundational or chancery italic through instruction in basic techniques and the use of materials.
