February 17th, 2012 at 4 p.m.
Held Studios, in partnership with Cyber-NY Interactive, is pleased to announce the opening of the group show "Where's My Jetpack?" and panel discussion "The Collision of Social Media and the Arts" for Social Media Week NY 2012. On February 17th, 2012, at the offices of Cyber-NY Interactive, 34 East 23rd ST, 4th floor, the panel discussion will begin at 4:00PM, followed by the opening reception and party from 6:00-9:00PM.
"The Collision of Social Media and the Arts," a moderated panel including art, technology and agency representatives will discuss how social media has impacted their professional practice in fashion, mixed media, music, fine arts and the interactive world and changed the way art is created, shared and experienced. Moderated by Katie Fiore of PM Digital, panelists include Stacy Lomman, fashion designer, Matt Held, artist, Mike Brown, Founder Cyber-NY, Chris Grayson from Humble.TV and TED, Jerald Miller from Nu Jazz Entertainment, and Rob Kimmel from WanderMonster.
Curated by Matt Held, "Where's My Jetpack?" presents a mix of paintings, illustrations, photography, audio, video, written word and installation art inspired by the mythology of the Jetpack and the broken promise that personal flight was always just around the corner. The show approaches the subject both in direct reality and in the form of an alternate timeline where Jetpacks became common-place in the 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond. Held says, "The dream of Jetpacks has become this great American white whale and I think the point of this show is to give the audience a chance to think on the notion that dreams of personal flight can be more tangible and real than the visions story books and superheroes have given us-even if it's all a little far-fetched."
