Haggai Shamir

Adjunct Assistant Professor

hagGai Shamir has worked as a graphic designer and typographer for 25 years. He is an original member of the independent firm, Dsn°Provisions, which specializes in branding, typeface design & academic publications. The companies and organizations that have sought his services include the manufacturer LP Percussions and the Columbia University music department; so have many filmmakers, members of the music industry, coffee producers, jewelry distributors and many small businesspersons.

hagGai values clarity in the service of flights of imagination. His work is both clean and resonant: crisp in line and layered with association. At the heart of the work is the play of type & image - at times type as image. Salient influences include the early 20th cent. political designs of John Heartfield and the culture production of Gert Dumbar - in both cases, provocative work marked by ingenuity.

In the early '90s, after graduating from the innovative Bezalel Academy of Art & Design in Jerusalem, hagGai was hired by the Michael Peters Group of London, the firm responsible for rebranding Shell, Tropicana, Phillips, Seagram's, and Knoll. Upon moving to New York, he worked with Chermayeff & Geismar Associates designing corporate identity systems.

hagGai has taught graphic design and typography in New York and abroad for the last 15 years. His purpose as a teacher is to encourages student independence & initiative in exploring, in a workshop setting, their creative ideas, providing the tools and inspiration to best realize them.

Haggai teaches Graphic Design I, Graphic Design II, Typography III and Typography IV.
