Brooklyn-based Michelle Willems is an award-winning art director who has worked with MTV, Sony Music, Tommy Boy Music, Comedy Central, VH1 and Honey magazine, as well other clients - Martha Stewart, Bad Boy Entertainment, StopSmiling magazine, Mavi Jeans, BET, Rubell Hotels, Fader, and the ICP. In addition to art direction and design, she also is very involved in photography - art directing and editing shoots.
“In college, I worked really hard to get an internship with Paula Scher, which gave me a strong foundation with type - before the computer came along - and later worked alongside Louise Fili, which further cemented my type sensibilites. Now in my class, I work with students to hopefully build the same kind of sensitivity for typography and also be aware of the digital translation/
aspect. I love typography and think of it as an emotional part of anything
we design.”
